Rhonrad celebrates its a centesimal birthday this 12 months. The tale of the way it took place is as improbable because the instrument itself: Otto Feick, a locksmith from the Palatinate, is alleged to have evolved the speculation whilst in jail in Mainz. There he remembered a toy from his grandfather – two metal tires, attached through crossbars, which he used to roll down slopes as a kid, explains wheel professional Anita Zirkelbach.

After liberation, Feik moved along with his spouse Pauline to their homeland of Schönau in Rennes and established a steel workshop. That is the place Rhonrad was once born, which he named after his new house. With a “model group” of gymnasts, Feik toured presentations in Germany and Europe – even so far as the United States.
