El presidente electo de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump , ha designado este domingo al comisario republicano de la Comisión Federal de Comunicaciones (FCC) Brendan Carr como presidente «permanente» de esta agencia que regula las comunicaciones por radio, televisión, teléfono, satélite y cable, y que se ha posicionado públicamente en contra de la red social TikTok . «Me complace anunciar que el comisario Brendan Carr será presidente de la Comisión Federal de Comunicaciones (FCC). El comisario Carr es actualmente el republicano de mayor rango en la FCC», ha anunciado en la cuenta de su plataforma Truth Social. El magnate ha destacado de Carr que es un « guerrero de la libertad de expresió n y ha luchado contra la guerra legal reguladora que ha ahogado las libertades de los estadounidenses y frenado (su) economía«. «Pondrá fin a la embestida reguladora que ha estado paralizando a los creadores de empleo y a los innovadores de Estados Unidos, y se asegurará de que la FCC actúe en favor de la América rural», ha asegurado el republicano. «¡Gracias, presidente Trump! Me siento humilde y honrado de servir como presidente de la FCC. Ahora nos ponemos a trabajar», ha respondido por su parte el comisario en su cuenta de la red social X. Carr ha sido miembro de la FCC durante los últimos cinco años desde que Trump lo propusiese al comienzo de su primer mandato en 2017 y ha sido confirmado por unanimidad por el Senado estadounidense en tres ocasiones, si bien su relación con el organismo se remonta al año 2012 cuando empezó a trabajar como asesor del entonces presidente, Ajit Pai. Como comisario del organismo se ha posicionado públicamente en contra de TikTok, advirtiendo de que no es «otra aplicación de vídeo más» , sino que recopila franjas de datos confidenciales a los que accede. Además ha insistido en que debería ser eliminada de las tiendas de aplicaciones de Apple y de Google. Doctor en Derecho Cum Laude por la Universidad Católica de América, ha ejercido de abogado especializado en apelaciones, litigios y asuntos regulatorios. El nombramiento de Carr se suma así a los cargos anunciados en los últimos días por el presidente electo para su nuevo gabinete, siendo el de su portavoz de campaña, Steven Cheung , uno de los más sonados. Así, el que fuera director de respuesta estratégica durante el primer mandato de Trump formará parte de la próxima Administración estadounidense como director de Comunicaciones de la Casa Blanca. Antes de trabajar en la primera campaña del republicano, Cheung fue portavoz del Ultimate Fighting Championship, el campeonato de artes marciales mixtas más famoso del mundo. La empresa mantiene fuertes vínculos con Trump ya que éste suele frecuentar las peleas de la UFC y su presidente, Dana White, es un «viejo amigo», según recoge la cadena estadounidense CNN.

The Library of Congress email systems suffered a substantial hack earlier this year by a “foreign adversary,” Fox News can confirm.It is unclear if the hack compromised accounts of those who work directly for the House and Senate.However, Fox News is told that U.S. Capitol Police has referred the matter to the FBI, and it is investigating the scope of the hack.Fox is told the Library of Congress notified impacted congressional personnel in the House and Senate, which included both Republican and Democratic offices.CHINESE SPIES HACKED TRUMP ATTORNEY TODD BLANCHE’S PHONE: SOURCE”The Library of Congress recently discovered a cyber breach of the Library’s information technology environment whereby an adversary accessed email communications during the timeframe of January to September 2024 between Library staff and congressional offices,” Library of Congress spokesman Bill Ryan told Fox News.”The Library has mitigated the vulnerability that the adversary used to access these emails and has taken measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The Library has referred the matter to law enforcement and is also conducting its own analysis of the breach.”The Library of Congress added that the cyber breach has been referred to law enforcement.The hack was described to Fox News as “classic, sophisticated foreign adversary espionage.”This means that the foreign actor conducting the hack was likely trying to get a sense of what types of questions lawmakers and aides ask the Library of Congress about legislation and the answers they receive. CHINESE HACKERS ATTEMPTED TO BREACH TRUMP AND HARRIS CAMPAIGNS’ CELLPHONE DATAIf successful, such espionage could shed light on the thinking of lawmakers about certain subjects.
Fox is told that it took some prompting by senior Congressional officials to share what went down at the Library of Congress. However, the hack is not believed to have spread to other Congressional systems — like the House and Senate.
